Pod Mod Buying Guide: What They Are and How to Pick One
A pod mod sits between a simple pod system and a full box mod. You get adjustable power and swappable coils, but it is still small enough to carry in your pocket. Here is a quick pod mod buying guide to help you pick one.
Pod System vs Pod Mod vs Box Mod
- Pod system: small and simple, usually draw-activated with little or no adjustment. Great for nic salts. See our guide to pod systems for beginners.
- Pod mod: a bigger battery, a fire button and adjustable wattage, with a refillable pod or cartridge that takes replaceable coils.
- Box mod: the most power and control, built to run a separate tank.

What to Look For
- Adjustable wattage: lets you dial in the hit. Lower for a tighter, mouth-to-lung draw; higher for bigger clouds.
- Replaceable coils: you swap the coil, not the whole pod, which saves money. Check that the coils are easy to find.
- Battery: some pod mods have a built-in battery, others take a removable 18650. Removable batteries need extra care. Read 18650 and 21700 Battery Safety.
- Pod capacity and fill: bigger pods mean fewer refills; top fill is easier than side fill.
Pod Mods We Carry
Keep spare coils and pods on hand. We carry GeekVape B Series coils, GeekVape Aegis Hero cartridges, VooPoo PNP coils and VooPoo Argus pods.
Matching Coils and E-Liquid
Higher-resistance coils (around 0.6 ohms and up) and lower wattage pair well with nic salts. Lower-resistance coils and higher wattage pair better with freebase e-liquid. Not sure which you use? Read Nic Salt vs. Freebase E-Liquid.
